September 2020 Highlight- AGU Atmospheric Sciences Ascent Award Recipients
September 30, 2020AOS Professors Tracey Holloway and Tristan L’Ecuyer were announced as recipients of the 2020 American Geophysical Union (AGU) Atmospheric Sciences Ascent Award. This award is one out of the many AGU Section Awards and Named Lecturers that were released earlier today, each awarded to researchers who have advanced Earth and space sciences and helped to further develop the field. The Atmospheric Sciences Ascent Award recognizes exceptional mid-career scientists (10-20 years post-Ph.D.).
Holloway is the 2017-2021 Gaylord Nelson Distinguished Professor at UW-Madison, jointly appointed between the AOS department and the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies. Her group is based out of the Center for Sustainability and the Global Environment (SAGE) within the Nelson Institute, incorporating a multidisciplinary team to advance air quality research and science. She also serves as the team lead for the NASA Health and Air Quality Applied Sciences Team, connecting NASA data with stakeholder interests in air quality management and public health.
L’Ecuyer is the director of the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) within the AOSS building. His research utilizes satellite remote sensing to advance understanding of the Earth’s climate system. In addition to his work with NOAA through the cooperative institute, he is also leading the Polar Radiant Energy in the Far-Infrared Experiment (PREFIRE), as study looking to use small satellites to better understand the energy exchanges in polar regions. In addition to these studies, L’Ecuyer is also a member of the NASA CloudSat/CALIPSO Science and Precipitation Measurement Mission science teams.
