AOS Alum Gerald (Jerry) Dittberner Passes at Age 81

The University of Wisconsin – Madison Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences regrets to inform of the passing of alum Dr. Gerald (Jerry) Dittberner on November 22, 2022. Gerald was a renowned climatologist, satellite meteorologist, forecaster, engineer, husband, father, and grandfather. He led a long and productive career and was heavily involved in areas of academia, defense, industry, as well as leadership roles in NOAA. Most recently as an employee of CIRA at Colorado State University, he had been working closely with Prof. Tom Vonderhaar to document the history of satellite meteorology.
