• The names for this basin are not cycled annually but are used continuously because of the infrequent occurrence of hurricanes in this region.

Pronunciation rules:

• Each syllable ends in a vowel. Two consecutive vowels are treated as separate syllables.
• a = "ah" e = "eh" i = ee o = "oh" u = "oo"
• w is like the English "w" except in "Wila" and "Oliwa", where it's pronounced v
• Accent is always on the last syllable.
